Speaking to journalists of New York Times, Danny Boyle made it clear that he returned to the discussion of the possibility of a sequel of his longtime brainchild Trainspotting.
As we know, there are no problems with materials for the movie. Irvine Welsh wrote his brilliant literary sequel in 2002. The director made peace with all his accomplices, and said that he was going to return the entire original cast of the Trainspotting. Famous screenwriter John Hodge is already working on the playwriting of the sequel.
Danny Boyle plans to start shooting in 2016. In general, it is not the first interview (after a considerable break) when he talks about a possible sequel, but this time it seems to be very serious. The main reason to believe in the success of this idea is his interest in the material of John Hodge (script writer of Shallow Grave, A Life Less Ordinary and Trainspotting) who has returned to work with Danny Boyle after a long period (more than ten years between The Beach and Trance).
The script will get only several plot turns of Welsh's story, while most of the new adventures of fellows start in the mind of Hodge. However, Boyle wants to attract Welsh to the creation of the film. The director is convinced that after finishing the script he will have no problems with actors.
Despite all this, Danny Boyle announced that he is currently working on two historical projects. He says that he is surprised with his own ideas and projects (in terms of historical material). But Danny Boyle is not going to compete with Downton Abbey. His works will be absolutely different.
